One Golden Instant
Eyes lift to seek the sun.
Thoughts pause in the budding treetops
between droplets of rain.
Clinging… still clinging …
to branches that bravely bore the long winter.
Little droplets… tiny fingers … they cling.
I cling.
Oh, I cling.
Again, I have forgotten
the golden Light
patiently bleaching holes in grey clouds,
coaxing the sapling’s first leaf to uncurl,
and silently returning
for me each day.
