Mother to Mother

At the dawn of creation there was Love

saturating every hum of the vast stillness

even as a blazing burst of light scattered the heavens.

Infant earth was hurled into orbit

and came to rest in lazy circles around the sun.

As ages passed, she shifted, shimmered,

and transformed with infinite precision,

becoming the living, breathing Mother of life itself.

Our dear and glorious Mother Earth,

veiled in ripples of sea spray,

crowned with starlight dancing across her silver mountain peaks …

a wild and knowing cosmos swirls in her luminous eyes.

And her fiery heart aches with love

as she gazes upon her expectant daughter.

Tenderly they embrace, mother to mother.

With a quiet acquiescence, this beloved daughter

brings Mother Earth’s lifeforce within her,

protecting the sacred child she carries,

pulsing with heartbreak and understanding,

radiating an uncontainable joy,

turning her back on the darkness she knows too well

to welcome the Light as yet unknown.
